What to Do First After Registering on Binance

Top Priority: Complete Security Settings

You've just registered your Binance account and are probably eager to buy your first cryptocurrency. But hold on — before making any trades, the most important thing is to set up your account security. Security incidents are frequent in the crypto space, and an unprotected account is like a safe without a lock.

The first thing to do is enable Google two-factor authentication (Google Authenticator, or GA). This is currently the most popular and secure method of two-factor verification. Download the Google Authenticator app on your phone (available on both Android and iOS), then go to the security settings page on Binance, find the "Google Authenticator" option, and scan the QR code to bind it. After binding, every time you log in to Binance, you'll need to enter a 6-digit dynamic code displayed in Google Authenticator in addition to your password. This code refreshes every 30 seconds, so even if someone steals your password, they can't log in without your phone.

A crucial point: when binding Google Authenticator, the system will give you a secret key (a string of letters and numbers). Make sure to write this key down and store it in a safe place. If your phone is lost or broken, this key is the only way to recover your Google Authenticator. Without it, you'll need to go through a tedious customer support appeal process to regain access to your account.

Next, bind both your phone number and email for dual verification. If you only used an email to register, go bind your phone number now, and vice versa. This way, sensitive operations like withdrawals will require verification from both your email and phone, significantly enhancing security.

Then set up an anti-phishing code. Many people overlook this feature, but it's actually very useful. You can set a phrase or number that only you know, and every official email from Binance will display this anti-phishing code. If you receive an email claiming to be from Binance but it doesn't show your anti-phishing code, you can be almost certain it's a phishing email.

Second Priority: Complete Identity Verification

After security settings are done, the next step is to complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. Accounts without identity verification have very limited functionality and can barely perform any meaningful operations.

Go to the "Identity Verification" page, select your nationality, then follow the prompts to upload photos of your identity documents and complete facial recognition. The entire process usually takes less than ten minutes, and the review is fast — most cases are approved within a few minutes.

After completing basic verification, you'll be able to use the vast majority of Binance's features, including C2C fiat trading, spot trading, and more.

Third Priority: Get Familiar with the Platform

With security settings and identity verification taken care of, don't rush to buy crypto — spend ten minutes familiarizing yourself with Binance's layout and feature modules.

First, look at the top navigation bar. Under the "Trade" menu, you'll find options for spot trading, margin trading, futures trading, and more. Beginners should focus only on spot trading — margin and futures are high-risk operations and not recommended for newcomers.

Then check out the "Buy Crypto" menu. Here you'll find entry points for purchasing cryptocurrency with fiat currency (such as CNY). C2C trading, quick buy, and credit/debit card purchases are all available here. For users in mainland China, C2C trading is the most commonly used method for fiat deposits.

The asset management page is also worth exploring. Click the wallet icon in the upper right corner to see your asset balances across different accounts. Binance has multiple sub-accounts: spot account, funding account, futures account, and more. Beginners mainly use the spot account and funding account — the funding account holds crypto purchased through C2C, while the spot account is used for trading. Before trading, you'll need to transfer crypto from the funding account to the spot account.

Finally, it's recommended to download the Binance mobile app. The mobile experience is very smooth, allowing you to check market data and trade anytime, anywhere. However, make sure to download the app from official channels to avoid installing a tampered counterfeit version.

After completing all these preparations, you're ready to officially begin your cryptocurrency trading journey. Remember, investing carries risk — start with small amounts to learn and gain experience, then gradually increase your investment.
